Job summary

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Environmental Protection Division, seeks an Environmental Compliance Specialist (Risk Assessor) 1–3 to review and interpret human-health and ecological risk assessments, evaluate cleanup standards, and provide technical support to the Land Protection Branch and beyond.

Qualifications

  • Experience conducting or reviewing human-health and ecological risk assessments.
  • Proficiency with U.S. EPA risk-assessment tools (RSL, VISL, Adult Lead Model, ProUCL).
  • Knowledge of exposure and toxicity assessment, conceptual site models, contaminant fate and transport, soil-to-groundwater leaching, and vapor intrusion.

Responsibilities

  • Review human-health and ecological risk assessments and evaluate cleanup standards and risk reduction standards.
  • Provide technical support to the Land Protection Branch and other EPD branches.
  • Advise EPD programs and regulators on risk-based environmental investigations and cleanup decisions.
  • Evaluate sampling plans, conceptual site models, exposure assessments, and dose–response assessments.
  • Perform environmental data analysis and risk characterization; participate in meetings.
  • Communicate complex scientific information clearly to regulators, consultants, and the public.
