Job summary

NiSource Inc. is seeking an Environmental Coordinator to manage environmental remediation programs across its portfolio, including RCRA and CERCLA regulatory work.

The role supports due diligence, budgeting, and contractor management while traveling to field locations to oversee projects and ensure 100% compliance. The position requires a strong background in environmental remediation or compliance, excellent communication, and the ability to collaborate with facilities and regulators.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in science, Environmental Science, Engineering or related field is required.
• 3+ years for Coordinator 2 or 5+ years for Coordinator 3 in environmental remediation or compliance.
• Experience managing third‑party consultants or vendors.
• Ability to develop and manage budgets and cash forecasts.
• Self‑starter with initiative and ability to work independently and in a team.
• Proficient technical skills in environmental remediation, compliance, or risk management.
• Strong analytical, written and oral communication skills.
• Knowledge of RCRA, CERCLA, NPDES, and SPCC regulations with cross‑functional program development.
• OSHA 40 Hour HAZWOPER Training or ability to obtain.
• Proficiency with spreadsheets and word processing software.
• Willingness to travel.

Responsibilities

• Assist in environmental Due Diligence reviews.
• Coordinate with third‑party consultants for data review and remediation recommendations.
• Oversee budgeting and spend forecasting related to capital budgets and environmental reserves.
• Interact with regulatory agencies as a company representative.
• Develop investigation studies and remedial actions.
• Complete compliance inspections and coordinate corrective actions.
• Coordinate environmental activities to ensure 100% environmental compliance.
• Review project information, develop work plans, and manage consultants and budgets.
