Job summary

The City of El Cerrito is seeking an Environmental Specialist to join the Public Works Department. This hands-on role supports recycling, waste reduction, and environmental programs, with emphasis on SB 1383 compliance, data analysis, and public outreach to residents and businesses.

You will research, develop, and implement programs, prepare reports, and assist with grants, contracts, and education materials while collaborating with city staff and regional partners to advance sustainable

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in public administration, environmental sustainability, environmental science, or related field.
• At least 1 year of work experience in environmental services, recycling or related field.
• California Driver’s License required or able to obtain one within six months of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Provides technical assistance via phone, email and in-person to promote recycling, waste reduction and other environmental programs.
• Performs field surveys and verifications at businesses and government agencies to reduce and recycle waste.
• Assists with division budget development, contract management and invoicing; grant administration and reporting.
