Job summary

City of El Cerrito seeks an Environmental Specialist in the Public Works Department to support recycling, waste reduction and environmental programs. The role involves research, analysis, program development and education for residents, businesses and staff, with a focus on SB 1383 compliance.

The position reports to the Senior Program Manager and works at the Recycling + Environmental Resource Center, collaborating with community members and regional partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree as specified.
• One year of work experience in environmental services, recycling and waste reduction or related field.
• California Driver’s License with ability to travel as required.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical assistance via phone, email and in-person to promote recycling and environmental programs.
• Perform field surveys and inspections to measure recycling and environmental program data.
• Prepare reports and recommendations based on data analysis.
• Develop education and outreach materials and coordinate public information activities.
• Coordinate grants, contracts and program administration within the division.
