Job summary

SMUD is seeking a CEQA lead and technical expert to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate environmental programs in support of SMUD’s operations. The role requires overseeing permits, reports, and compliance while guiding staff, consultants, and project teams to meet regulatory expectations.

The ideal candidate will lead complex environmental initiatives, mentor junior staff, and drive sustainability efforts and stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

• CEQA and environmental regulations expertise.
• Experience leading environmental programs and teams.
• Ability to train staff on environmental procedures.
• Experience with permits and regulatory reporting.

Responsibilities

• Environmental Compliance: plan, develop, implement and evaluate programs.
• Oversee permit applications, technical reports, and compliance documents.
• Provide expert guidance on complex compliance matters.
• Data collection: manage field assessments and analysis.
• Education and Training: develop and deliver training on policies.
• Mentor staff and manage consultants.
• Project and Program Management: lead major environmental projects.
• Sustainability initiatives: guide programs and track metrics.
• Community and Regulatory Engagement: represent SMUD in high-level meetings.
