Job description

Environmental Practice Lead - locations all over the United States

Lead People. Build a Practice. Shape the Future.

A nationally recognized environmental, engineering, and infrastructure consulting firm is seeking an Environmental Practice Lead to help lead and expand a growing environmental business.

We're looking for an experienced environmental leader who combines strong technical expertise with project leadership, client relationships, and a desire to build something.

You'll work directly with senior leadership, help shape the direction of the environmental practice, mentor and grow a team, and have the resources and autonomy to expand into the markets and services where you see opportunity.

If you've reached the point in your career where you want more ownership, more influence, and a genuine opportunity to build, this could be the next step.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Lead and grow environmental projects, programs, and client relationships
  • Manage and mentor environmental scientists, planners, permitting specialists, and project managers
  • Oversee complex environmental planning, permitting, natural resources, and compliance projects
  • Support clients across energy, utilities, transportation, infrastructure, industrial, and development markets
  • Build and expand relationships with existing and prospective clients
  • Identify opportunities to expand environmental services into new markets and geographies
  • Collaborate with engineering, planning, and infrastructure teams across the organization
  • Lead major proposals, pursuits, and strategic client initiatives
  • Recruit and develop future environmental leaders
  • Help shape the long-term strategy and direction of the environmental practice
What Makes This Opportunity Different
  • Genuine opportunity to build and shape a practice
  • High visibility with senior and executive leadership
  • Ability to influence hiring, market strategy, and future investment
  • Established technical resources and multidisciplinary project teams
  • Strong platform for expanding existing client relationships
  • Opportunity to remain technically involved without being buried in project delivery
  • Significant runway toward Director and executive-level leadership
  • Flexibility around location for the right individual
Ideal Background
  • 10-15 years of environmental consulting experience
  • Background in environmental planning, permitting, natural resources, compliance, or related environmental services
  • Experience managing complex projects, programs, and client relationships
  • Strong understanding of NEPA, environmental permitting, regulatory strategy, or environmental compliance
  • Experience within energy, utilities, transmission, renewables, transportation, infrastructure, industrial, or development markets
  • Experience mentoring or leading environmental professionals
  • Comfortable participating in proposals, pursuits, and client development
  • Strong client-facing and communication skills
  • Interest in helping grow a team, client base, and environmental practice

We're interested in strong environmental leaders who understand their market, have trusted industry relationships, and want the opportunity to grow.

Why Explore This Opportunity?

Because you're no longer interested in simply managing another project.

You're interested in building a team, influencing strategy, developing people, strengthening client relationships, and having a meaningful say in where an environmental practice goes next.

If you've hit a ceiling in your current organization or simply want to understand what the next level could look like, I'd be happy to have a confidential conversation on this role.
