Job summary

Stantec is seeking an Environmental Planner/Siting Specialist to support electrical transmission line routing and substation siting for investors, utilities and independent developers. You will write proposals, develop plans and help move projects toward closure in a cost‑effective manner, utilizing GIS and permitting experience when available.

Job description

As an Environmental Planner/Siting Specialist, you will assist with the delivery of electrical transmission line routing and substation siting projects for investor‑owned utilities and independent transmission developers. Your responsibilities include writing proposals, developing plans, and implementing steps to move projects toward closure in the most cost‑effective manner. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) capabilities and/or natural resource permitting experience are a plus.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Complete tasks according to approved scopes of work.
  • Assist with routing and siting studies for linear and/or renewable energy projects and associated facilities.
  • Contribute to business development activities, including proposals and pre‑qualifications.
  • Participate in Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Demonstrated experience with routing and siting projects, NEPA documents, or similar environmental assessment, planning and documentation.
  • Capable and confident technical writer.
  • Understanding of Geographic Information System (GIS) processes and capabilities; prior GIS expertise desirable.
  • Understanding of permitting and compliance for energy infrastructure desirable.
  • Skilled in communications and technical information exchange with a variety of audiences.
  • Disciplined approach to completing tasks.
  • Shows a desire to continuously improve technical performance.
  • Welcomes new ideas and initiatives and creates an environment that supports creativity and innovation.
  • Builds and maintains productive networking relationships.
  • Good driving record and valid driver’s license required.
  • Experience in routing & siting, NEPA document development, or other relevant natural resources work such as transmission line permitting.
Education and Experience
  • Minimum bachelor’s or higher in environmental science, planning, engineering, or related field with demonstrated experience with environmental planning, assessment and documentation.
  • 5 years of industry experience desired.

Pay Range
  • Various Locations in ME, VA: $77,100.00 – $111,900.00 Annually
  • Locations in MN, OH, VT, & Various CA, ME, NY, VA Areas: $85,700.00 – $124,300.00 Annually
  • Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD & Various CA, NJ, VA Areas: $94,300.00 – $136,700.00 Annually
  • Locations in WA, DC & Various CA, MA, VA Areas: $101,100.00 – $146,700.00 Annually

Pay transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part‑time roles will be pro‑rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.

Benefits Summary

Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law. The benefits information listed above may not apply to union positions because benefits for such positions are governed by applicable collective bargaining agreements.
