Job summary

Stantec is seeking an Environmental Planner/Siting Specialist to help deliver electrical transmission line routing and substation siting projects for utilities and developers. You will write, support, and help move projects toward closure with cost-effective strategies. GIS capabilities and permitting experience are a plus.

The role emphasizes strong technical writing, environmental planning, and collaborative work with teams across disciplines. Travel to various project sites may be required.

Your Opportunity

Your role as an Environmental Planner/Siting Specialist will include assisting with the delivery of electrical transmission line routing and substation siting projects for investor-owned utilities and independent transmission developers. In this role, you will participate as a writer and technical support person for routing and siting. You will also assist with writing proposals, developing plans, and implementing steps to move projects toward closure in the most cost-effective manner. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) capabilities and/or natural resource permitting experience a plus.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Complete tasks according to approved scopes of work.
  • Assist with routing and siting studies for linear and/or renewable energy projects and associated facilities.
  • Contribute to business development activities, including proposals and pre-qualifications.
  • Participate in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Demonstrated experience with routing and siting projects, NEPA documents, or similar environmental assessment, planning and documentation.
  • Capable and confident technical writer.
  • An understanding of Geographic Information System (GIS) processes and capabilities (prior GIS expertise desirable, but current GIS expertise is not required).
  • An understanding of permitting and compliance for energy infrastructure is desirable, but not required.
  • Skilled in communications and technical information exchange with a variety of audiences.
  • Disciplined approach to completing tasks.
  • Shows a desire to continuously improve technical performance.
  • Welcomes new ideas and initiatives and creates an environment that supports creativity and innovation.
  • Builds and maintains productive networking relationships.
  • Good driving record and valid driver’s license required.
  • Experience in routing & siting, NEPA document development, or other relevant natural resources work such as transmission line permitting.
Education and Experience
  • The ideal candidate will have at minimum, a Bachelor’s or higher in environmental science, planning, engineering, or related field with demonstrated experience with environmental planning, assessment and documentation.
  • 5 years of industry experience is desired.

Pay Range
  • Various Locations in ME, VA - $77,100.00 - $111,900.00 Annually
  • Locations in MN, OH, VT, & Various CA, ME, NY, VA Areas - $85,700.00 - $124,300.00 Annually
  • Locations in CO, HI, IL, MD & Various CA, NJ, VA Areas - $94,300.00 - $136,700.00 Annually
  • Locations in WA, DC & Various CA, MA, VA Areas - $101,100.00 - $146,700.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.

Benefits Summary

Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).

Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
