Environmental Planner/Regulatory Specialist

Our team includes environmental scientists, planners, engineers, policy experts, geospatial analysts, and data scientists committed to environmental improvement.

We seek a highly motivated Environmental Planner or Regulatory Specialist to support the USEPA and California State Water Resources Control Board in managing regulatory responses to LUST cases in California. The role involves developing and implementing environmental policies, reviewing regulations, preparing technical reports, evaluating environmental impacts, and facilitating public communication. The position is remote within California, with occasional travel required.

Responsibilities include:
  • Reviewing LUST site histories and determining compliance with closure policies.
  • Producing case closure summaries and identifying paths to closure.
  • Conducting reviews of cases and preparing regulatory communications.
  • Reviewing work plans and reports related to corrective actions.
  • Developing case management strategies and facilitating stakeholder meetings.
  • Coordinating with agencies and responsible parties, including outreach and enforcement collaboration.
  • Maintaining and updating the GeoTracker database and preparing progress reports.
Minimum requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental/civil engineering, chemistry, geology, biology, or related field; Master's preferred.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to develop strategies, work with agencies, and communicate effectively.
  • Strong MS Office skills.
Preferred skills:
  • Experience with UST cleanup in California.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and computer skills, especially in MS Excel.
Physical Demands:
  • Mostly sedentary work with some fieldwork requiring PPE and physical activity.
