Job summary

AKRF, Inc. is seeking an Environmental Planner/Permitting Specialist to join the Finger Lakes office in Trumansburg, NY. The role involves conducting surveys and evaluating resources, preparing permit applications, and providing strategy planning for design development.

You will work with cross-functional teams, support public involvement, and contribute to technical memos and reports while traveling as needed. A bachelor’s degree and 0–3 years in energy are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental resources, environmental planning, natural resources, environmental engineering, or related field.
• 0 to 3 years of experience (energy sector).
• Excellent writing and communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Teams.
• A valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Prepare scientific reports, permit application documents, environmental impact assessments, and compliance evaluations.
• Review and interpret land development and environmental regulations (local zoning, NY/NJ regulations).
• Assist in field surveys and data collection (land use inventories, wetlands, rare species).
• Collect and compile environmental data from multiple sources for project-related research and reports.
• Use topographic maps, aerial photos, GPS data, and visualization tools to assess site characteristics.
• Prepare visualizations (tables, charts, models, infographics) for data interpretation.
• Assist with land use applications and represent clients in zoning entitlement processes.
• Participate in public involvement and consensus-building meetings.
