Job description

LMI seeks an environmental planning specialist to support a federal program management office in Washington, DC. Join our team of collaborative self-starters focused on delivering practical and efficient solutions to help our client keep U.S. borders safe and facilitate trade and travel. Responsibilities

You will assist a federal agency in executing its environmental program and complying with environmental laws and regulations, such as the Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA), Endangered Species Act (ESA), National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). Strong communication skills, a demonstrated ability to deliver innovative solutions, a sound understanding of environmental laws and processes, and creative problem-solving acumen are critical success factors.

Representative responsibilities:

  1. Support federal environmental branch lead as part of our environmental technical team.
  2. Develop environmental clearances and technical reports in compliance with CBP policies and directives.
  3. Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations for projects across the country.
  4. Track progress of environmental requirements until completion and ensure final documents, mitigation, and metrics are recorded in various CBP tracking and repository systems.
  5. Coordinate with multiple internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies and other branches of CBP and DHS.
Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree in a technical field required (science, engineering, etc.).
  2. 3+ years of overall experience required with 2 years of experience in NEPA compliance preferred.
  3. Previous work with CBP’s portfolios and program offices is a plus.
  4. Work experience in one or more of the following areas:
    1. NEPA
    2. NHPA
    3. ESA
    4. CAA
    5. CWA
    6. RCRA
    7. Development and implementation of environmental-related training programs.
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and SharePoint; TRIRIGA; and ArcGIS.
  6. A true team player who maintains a positive attitude in a dynamic environment.
  7. Relevant professional certification or training in environmental planning preferred.
  8. Ability to work productively in a telework/mobile work environment required.
  9. Able to work independently.
  10. Able to travel up to 25%.
  11. Able to hike to remote locations and carry up to 20 lbs.

Ability to pass a government background investigation, including financial, criminal, residential, educational, foreign affiliation, prohibited substance use, and employment verifications; active U.S. Customs and Border Protection background investigation preferred.
