Job summary

Sarasota County Government is seeking a Field Inspector to join the Planning and Development Services – Land Development team. You will inspect site development projects, ensure construction aligns with approved plans, and review permits, keeping records up to date.

The ideal candidate has experience in construction practices and strong attention to detail, with a Florida driver’s license and the ability to work with engineers, contractors, and property owners.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent with 3+ years in construction/maintenance or related supervisory support.
• College training may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required construction/maintenance experience.
• Valid Florida Driver's License within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Inspect site development projects to ensure compliance with plans and County standards.
• Review, issue, and inspect Right-of-Way Use and Culvert permits.
• Collaborate with engineers, contractors, property owners, and County teams.
• Investigate citizen concerns and identify code violations.
• Maintain project records and provide written/verbal updates on progress.
• Review plans, specifications, and materials to meet required standards.
• Support final inspections and documentation.
