Job summary

GreenWaste is seeking an Environmental Outreach Coordinator to lead waste prevention, reuse, and recycling initiatives. The role involves developing outreach programs, presenting to communities, and forming partnerships with nonprofits and government agencies.

Based in Santa Clara, CA, you will work with the Outreach Team to expand education efforts, track progress, and maintain accessible information on collection requirements and program successes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, business administration, or related field.
  • Three years of increasingly responsible experience in public-facing programs (Bachelor’s degree may substitute up to 2 years).
  • Graphic design and presentation experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute targeted public outreach and education programs across service areas.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce waste and promote reuse/recycling with residents, businesses, and schools.
  • Create collateral materials (guides, brochures, newsletters) and coordinate program changes.

Pay: $33.00 to $37.75

We are seeking an experienced, successful, and engaged Environmental Outreach Coordinator to join our team. This position is expected to work out of our office at 2765 Lafayette St., Santa Clara, CA and limited travel may be required.

Position Summary

GreenWasteis seeking to fill the position ofEnvironmental Outreach Coordinatorto provide support to one or more facilities. This role’s main functions includebuilding and expanding waste prevention, reuse and recycling programs, and a special interest in helping communities achieve zero waste.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Work with the Outreach Team to develop a strategic and targeted approach to conducting public outreach and education throughout our service areas.
  • Identify waste reduction, reuse, and recycling opportunities for residents, businesses, complexes, schools, and special events and develop and implement tailored programs to increase diversion.
  • Develop collateral materials for distribution, including but not limited to: recycling and “how-to” guides, brochures, newsletters, and notifications for new programs and/or changes in service.
  • Conduct presentations and offer facility tours to service organizations, schools, business groups, civicassociations,neighborhoodandhomeowner’sassociations,workshops,andothercommunity events.
  • Develop partnerships with non-profit and service organizations to build markets for reuse of materials.
  • Contribute to the development of an annual public outreach and education plan and track and report on progress, including challenges encountered and program successes.
  • Work with Outreach Team to keep website current and ensure easy access to educational materialsandimportantinformationoncollectionrequirements,programsuccessesanddiversion statistics.
  • Conduct hands-on waste audits of residential, multi-family, schools, city facilities and commercial sectors to determine the breakdown and composition of materials by sector.
  • Initiate meetings with business owners and/or decision makers to provide educational materials, on-site workshops and/or presentations to market and implement recycling and diversion programs.
  • Identify opportunities for GreenWaste to become more involved in the communities in which we service, including organizing events and developing incentive programs for employees to participate.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’sdegreeorequivalentinenvironmentalscience,businessadministration, or a related field.
  • Threeyearsofincreasinglyresponsibleexperienceimplementingahighlyvisible program in a position involving public contact. A Bachelor’s degree may be substituted for up to two years’ experience.
  • Graphicdesignandpresentationexperience
Language Skill
  • Proficiency in English and/or Spanish
Physical Demands
  • Must be able to sit at a computer for prolonged periods
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs.
Work Environment

Typical work week is Monday through Friday. Will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. Ability to work in setting with frequent changes in equipment, start/end time, service city/town and routes based on the operational needs for the day and or week.

Financial compensation will be commensurate with applicable experience.
