Job summary

Pace Analytical Services, LLC is seeking an Environmental Monitoring Systems Technician in Sheridan, WY. This full-time, onsite role runs Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with field work and travel as needed.

Compensation is $23.00 per hour, with final offer based on location, experience, and internal guidelines. The role involves monitoring systems, data analysis, equipment troubleshooting, and client communication to ensure data quality and system reliability in environmental monitoring

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 2 years (or equivalent) in equipment monitoring.

The salary for this position reflects a variety of factors. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Monitors environmental monitoring systems and site health to identify system outages, communication failures, equipment malfunctions, data gaps, and other performance issues; communicates system status and required actions to clients and internal staff.

• Reviews, evaluates, and reports air quality and environmental monitoring data in accordance with client requirements, project specifications, and established procedures; identifies data anomalies or potential equipment-related concerns requiring further investigation.

• Provides technical troubleshooting and support to office and field personnel to diagnose and resolve issues involving monitoring systems, data loggers, sensors, communications equipment, and other field instrumentation.

• Coordinates resolution of field equipment issues by evaluating system performance, identifying probable causes, recommending corrective actions, and working with field personnel through testing and restoration of equipment.

• Evaluates equipment needs and prepares equipment quotations for new installations, system expansions, upgrades, and replacement equipment based on client requirements, equipment compatibility, and operational needs.

• Maintains and supports data logger programs and operating instructions necessary for the proper operation, communication, and data collection of field monitoring equipment.

• Repairs, configures, tests, and replaces field monitoring equipment and components to maintain system reliability and minimize monitoring interruptions.

• Supports installation and deployment of new or replacement equipment, including equipment configuration, programming, testing, documentation, and coordination with field personnel.

• Maintains accurate technical documentation and equipment records, including system configurations, programming, troubleshooting activities, equipment changes, repairs, and replacement history.

• Communicates technical information and system status clearly to clients and internal stakeholders, providing timely updates regarding equipment issues, data availability, corrective actions, and anticipated resolution.

• Identifies recurring system or equipment issues and recommends improvements to increase system reliability, data quality, operational efficiency, and client service.

• Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the department's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.

• Promotes and supports the overall mission of Pace by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with customers and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, electronics, instrumentation, information technology, or related field; AND two (2) years of experience supporting equipment monitoring; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Required Knowledge and Skills

Required Knowledge

• Environmental monitoring practices, particularly air quality monitoring and associated data collection processes.

• Instrumentation knowledge of sensors, data loggers, monitoring instruments, telemetry systems, and related field equipment.

• Principles and practices of data acquisition, transmission, storage, validation, and reporting processes.

• Systematic troubleshooting methods used to diagnose hardware, software, communications, and instrumentation issues.

• Data logger communication protocols or similar technical programming concepts.

• Methods of equipment installation, testing, calibration, repair, replacement, and preventive maintenance practices.

• Operational understanding of data integrity, quality review, and identification of abnormal or incomplete environmental monitoring data.

• Effective client communication and the importance of timely resolution of monitoring and equipment issues.

• Documentation and user instruction methods for clearly communicating standards and procedures.

• Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

• Correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.

• Monitoring multiple environmental monitoring systems and identifying operational or data-related issues requiring attention.

• Analyzing environmental and air quality data to identify anomalies, trends, data gaps, and potential equipment problems.

• Troubleshooting technical issues involving instrumentation, data loggers, communications systems, sensors, and related equipment.

• Supporting data loggers and monitoring equipment to meet operational and project requirements.

• Diagnosing and repairing electronic and field monitoring equipment using appropriate tools, documentation, and testing methods.

• Interpreting technical manuals, equipment specifications, wiring diagrams, system configurations, and operating instructions.

• Communicating technical information effectively to clients, field personnel, and internal staff with varying levels of technical expertise.

• Coordinating equipment repairs, replacements, installations, and technical support activities across multiple projects or locations.

• Prioritizing system issues based on operational impact, client needs, data requirements, and urgency.

• Documenting system configurations, equipment changes, troubleshooting activities, repairs, and technical procedures accurately.

• Working independently while collaborating effectively with field, office, technical, and client teams.
