Job summary

Gerdau in Cartersville, GA seeks an Environmental Manager to lead compliance and sustainability for a major steel mill. You will drive regulatory Programs, EMS, and continuous improvement across the site to ensure safe, compliant operations.

You will oversee permits, environmental KPIs, capital projects, and audits; act as primary liaison with agencies and site leadership; mentor environmental staff and support health & safety leadership as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related technical field.
• 4+ years of environmental compliance experience in steel manufacturing, metals, mining, power generation, chemicals, or other heavy industrial environments.
• Strong knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations, permitting, and reporting requirements.
• Proven experience working with regulatory agencies, audits, compliance programs, and environmental management systems.
• Strong leadership, communication, and continuous improvement skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead environmental compliance programs, permits, and reporting activities, including Air (Title V), Water (NPDES), Stormwater, SPCC, Hazardous Waste, SARA, and Radiation Protection.
• Oversee the site's Environmental Management System (EMS) and drive environmental performance improvement initiatives.
• Manage environmental KPIs, capital projects, audits, and compliance action plans.
• Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies and maintain relationships with corporate and site leadership.
• Support landfill operations, groundwater monitoring, remediation activities, and emissions control systems.
• Lead and develop environmental personnel while fostering a culture of environmental stewardship and operational excellence.
• Act as a key advisor to plant leadership and backup for Health & Safety leadership.

Lead environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives at one of North America's leading steel manufacturers. As Environmental Manager, you'll play a critical leadership role in ensuring regulatory compliance, driving continuous improvement, and shaping the environmental strategy for a large-scale steel operation.
