Job summary

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate compliance and qualification with local, state, and federal environmental and safety regulatory agencies (AQMD, OSHA, Fire Department, etc.).
  • Track compliance to EHS requirements and deliverables (plans, forms, invoices, submissions).
  • Prepare environmental, health and safety strategies and conduct risk assessments.
  • Develop and deliver in-house EHS training programs for employees.

Job description

The Gill Corporation is one of the world's largest manufacturers of honeycomb, high performance floor panels, cargo compartment liners and original equipment for passenger and freighter aircraft. The company also excels in many other types of reinforced plastics including interior sandwich panels for creating structures such as aircraft galleys and bulkheads, honeycomb core and related products.

The Gill Corporation is seeking a EHS Site Leader who will implement policies to ensure a safe and healthy work environment. This position will directly and indirectly develop, assess, audit and promote a wide range of workplace hazard reduction/compliance initiatives involving work practices, machinery, training, PPE and related exposures. Will oversee chemical handling education and other related responsibilities.

Reporting to the Sr. Director of Manufacturing Engineering, they will perform but not be limited to the following responsibilities.

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate compliance and qualification with all local, state, and federal environmental and safety regulatory agencies (AQMD, OSHA, Fire Department, Sanitation Department etc.).
  • Responsible for tracking compliance to all EHS requirements and deliverables including: plans, regulatory submittals, forms, fees/invoices via MAPCON, regular mail, and direct regulatory agency contact.
  • Complete or facilitate submittal and record retention of regulatory forms, reports and permits.
  • Attend workshops and hearings to determine how to clarify, report on and implement new proposed rules and regulations of governing company operations.
  • Work with Plant Engineer to locate, select and supervise specialized independent contractors to test and report on emissions and discharges of regulated substances.
  • Work with R&D Team on REACH or other environmental requests from customers, clients, etc.
  • Establish metrics and monitoring of all site environmental requirements.
  • Prepare environmental, health and safety strategies including plans and policies.
  • Conduct regular EHS risk assessments to identify areas for improvement and compliance.
  • Investigate and develop alternatives to working practices that are safe and comply with legislation.
  • Review and comment on a range of specialist areas, e.g. fire regulations, hazardous substances, noise, safeguarding machinery and occupational diseases.
  • Collaborate with all site functions on projects as required.
  • Work with Maryland EHS Manager on safety initiatives and practices as needed.
  • Develops, schedules, and conducts EHS training programs; partners with managers to deliver in-house training that promotes employee awareness of safety procedures, regulatory compliance, and workplace risk prevention.
  • Respond and manage environmental and safety incidents and emergencies for all shifts and overnight/weekends as needed.
  • Indirectly review and be conversant with all active Workers Compensation claims and the resolution management of those claims/injuries.
  • Manage Safety leader and other resources on safety projects and deliverables.
  • Work with Hazardous Waste Material Handler on proper disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Other essential duties may be assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science/engineering or related field with sufficient understanding of Operations. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • 7-10 years of experience and or exposure in this field
  • Ability to plan, organize, and manage environmental projects effectively.
  • PC knowledge – Word and Excel, PowerPoint
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with internal and external customers, including executive staff
  • As a member of the Emergency Response Team, must be able to wear a respirator.
  • Acceptable Spirometry Test results
