Job description

Georgia-Pacific is seeking a self-motivated and driven Environmental Manager to join our Corrigan Plywood site in Corrigan, Texas

The Environmental Manager will perform professional work at multiple levels in support of the Environmental Department, the Plant, and Divisional/Corporate Environmental Programs.The individual will have responsibilities for the evaluation, development, implementation, troubleshooting, and management of the facility’s environmental compliance programs and systems. This position will assist in ensuring facility compliance with pertinent governmental regulations, such as state and federal air regulations, drinking water, storm water, wastewater, hazardous waste and to relative company policies and procedures such as Georgia Pacific's Environmental Compliance Standards.

What You Will Do
  • Technical Expert and Compliance Standard Owner for the site
  • Manage compliance of federal (EPA) and state/local environmental program requirements, including but not limited to air, water/wastewater, stormwater, solid and hazardous waste, SPCC, CERCLA/EPCRA, TSCA, DOT and FCC
  • Participate in the plant’s strategic planning and project review processes, track environmental performance metrics, and support continuous improvement of the facility’s environmental management system
  • Assist with training personnel and implementing Georgia Pacific’s environmental 7 Element Risk Management System
  • Participate in incident investigation, mitigation, root cause analysis and corrective action
  • Assist with day-to-day environmental compliance requirements of applicable permits, plans, and regulations - these may include collecting records, preparing reports, monitoring & directing work performed by consultants, conducting inspections, and sample collection
  • Stay current with new ideas, engineering and techniques in the environmental field
  • Represent facility during agency inspections and interactions
  • Identify cost effective solutions for technical and regulatory environmental issues
  • Work closely with the respective Regional Environmental Manager and/or Business Environmental Manager for guidance and direction on all environmental matters
  • Knowledge share with other GP Building Product facilities’ environmental teams
  • Work collaboratively with mill operations to ensure the environmental program is effective across the mill
  • Proactively maintain a broad knowledge of current and emerging federal, state, and local Environmental regulatory requirements affecting mill operations
  • Train facility personnel with respect to environmental regulations
  • Obtain and maintain Method 9 Opacity certification
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Engineering or Natural Sciences (i.e.: Chemistry, Biology)
  • Environmental compliance and management systems experience
OR
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Engineering or Natural Sciences (i.e.: Chemistry, Biology)
AND
  • Experience applying Environmental Laws and regulations in a manufacturing/industrial facility
  • Experience performing air and water field work
  • Working knowledge of Texas and federal environmental regulations including Title V air permitting program
What Will Put You Ahead
  • Experience conducting facility audits or inspections to identify improvement areas
  • Five (5) years or more of environmental compliance and management systems experience
  • Experience in a leadership role with the responsibility of direct reports
