Job summary

Smurfit Westrock plc is seeking a Laboratory Technician for our WestPoint Mill in Virginia. The LabTech will perform effluent and wastewater sampling to support VPDES environmental compliance, run analyses on multiple instruments, and assist with QA investigations.

Weekend/on-call duties are part of the role. Qualifications include a chemistry degree (bachelor or associate with experience) and the ability to learn quickly, manage time well, and communicate findings clearly.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry and 1+ year of industrial sampling/testing experience; or an Associate degree with 2+ years in a similar setting.
• Demonstrated ability to learn new techniques quickly and work with limited supervision.
• Strong time management, detail orientation, and clear communication of results.

Responsibilities

• Collect samples: wastewater, storm water, groundwater, raw materials and finished products.
• Perform analyses using on-site laboratory instruments (BOD, COD, TSS, pH, BTU, TKN, NO2+NO3, chloride, Na, TOX/AOX).
• Enter results into databases or spreadsheets and assist with QA investigations and reporting.
• Inspect tanks and waste areas; report deficiencies; support safety and environmental compliance.
• On-call weekends/holidays approximately every three weeks for sampling and testing.
