The City of Golden is seeking an Environmental Lab Technician responsible for analyzing drinking water to ensure compliance with various regulations. LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write reports as required by position. Ability to effectively present information to management, public groups, and co-workers.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts i.e. probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts i.e. fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
MATERIALS & EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED
Operates various laboratory equipment including spectrophotometer, TOC analyzer, titrator, muffle furnace, pH meter, incubator, turbidimeter, specific ion apparatus, oven, and balances. Utilizes hydrant wrenches and water meter/stopcock key. Use of computer and City vehicles.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
Work environment is predominately in the lab with some field work. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
