Job summary

The West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection seeks an Environmental Inspector-In-Training to perform field inspections, enforce regulations, and support water and waste management initiatives from the Fairmont area.

This role requires travel, a valid driver’s license, and the ability to work under limited supervision while building expertise in environmental enforcement and sampling techniques.

Qualifications

• Training and experience in environmental inspection or related field.
• Substitution allows for equivalent work experience in inspection or technical roles.
• Must possess valid driver’s license and pass medical examinations as required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular inspections of sites and facilities for compliance with laws and permit conditions.
• Investigate complaints about environmental harm from various sources.
• Respond to emergencies and collect samples for lab analyses.
• Prepare inspections and reports and initiate appropriate enforcement actions.
