Job summary

West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection is seeking an Environmental Inspector-in-Training in Fayetteville, WV. The role focuses on construction, sediment, and erosion controls tied to oil and gas pipelines, with additional storm water enforcement duties.

You will inspect sites, investigate complaints, and initiate enforcement actions to ensure compliance with environmental laws. Overnight travel across assigned counties is required.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a relevant degree.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and be eligible to operate a vehicle in WV.
• Must pass a physical examination within the first six months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Inspect construction, sediment and erosion controls related to pipeline work and storm water facilities.
• Investigate complaints and initiate enforcement actions for non-compliance.
• Conduct site inspections and prepare written reports and data submissions.
• Respond to emergency situations such as spills or hazardous discharges when required.
• Travel overnight across designated counties for inspections.
