Job summary

City of San José Environmental Services Department is recruiting Environmental Inspectors I/II to perform compliance inspections for industrial, commercial, and residential facilities. You will review data, conduct site inspections, and prepare regulatory reports while upholding city environmental standards.

Expect a typical Monday–Friday schedule with potential hybrid onsite/remote work based on supervisor approval.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, or closely related field.
• Experience: Environmental Inspector I (none) or II (two years in inspection/consulting).
• Must possess valid California driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Conduct compliance inspections and investigations to ensure adherence to federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
• Review data, self-monitoring reports, and conduct site inspections and investigations.
• Prepare technical and regulatory reports and maintain program records.
• Collaborate with city departments, stakeholders, and external agencies as needed.
