Required are a relevant degree, REHS certification, two years of REHS-level experience, and the ability to manage staff, interpret environmental health laws,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health or Public Health or equivalent with required coursework.
• Two years of REHS level experience in a health department.
• Must be a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS).
• Separate authorization by Regional Environmental Health Specialist for rule interpretation.
• ICS certification through FEMA and a valid driver's license are required.

Responsibilities

• Supervises a team of EHS/Interns; plans and assigns daily work and evaluates performance.
• Guides plan review and permitting for food, lodging, institutions, and child care establishments.
• Provides education to operators and the public; conducts investigations and inspections.
• Interprets environmental health laws and ensures compliance with rules and standards.
• Coordinates with local officials and other specialists on complex issues.
