Job summary

Salt Lake County is seeking Environmental Health Scientist I/II to identify hazards, inspect regulated establishments, and enforce public health laws across Salt Lake County. The role combines office and fieldwork, including inspections of cosmetology, lodging, schools, and food establishments, with evening/weekend work as needed.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health or related field and licensure commitments in Utah, plus a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health or related area; licensure in Utah.
• Must become licensed as Environmental Health Scientist-in-training within 60 days and as Environmental Health Scientist within 1 year.

Responsibilities

• Conduct inspections, surveys, and enforce health laws; issue notices and follow through with compliance actions.
• Investigate disease outbreaks and environmental health problems; develop programs and public education.
