Job summary

Florida International University in Miami is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety professional to manage and support the development, implementation, and maintenance of EH&S programs across the campus. You will work closely with management, employees, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance and a safe work environment.

Key duties include developing PS&T policies, training, risk assessments, inspections, incident investigations, and safety communications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required with 4 years of experience or Master's with 2 years of experience.
• Experience as Environmental Health & Safety professional.
• OSHA Certification must be completed within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Develops programs and policies for FIU Parking, Sustainability and Transportation (PS&T) and reports to AVP and senior staff.
• Advise on safety topics (noise, machinery, driving) and conduct risk assessments with preventive measures.
• Coordinate, organize and track training for all PS&T employees.
• Inspect premises and the work of personnel to identify issues and non-conformities; oversee equipment and substances handling in line with EH&S regulations.
• Exercise independent judgment to stop unsafe acts, conditions or processes posing risks.
• Manage incidents/accident investigations and develop safety training programs to reduce risks.
• Conduct safety walkthroughs for lighting in parking facilities and access points.
• Oversee safety equipment, emergency call boxes, CCTV locations to improve safety.
• Develop and maintain procedures for passenger loading/unloading, wheelchair lifts, and heavy equipment usage; advise on budget allocations for PS&T safety programs.
