Job summary

Arcosa is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist in Florida to schedule and implement training programs, coordinate audits, and document incidents. The role requires strong communication and a solid EHS regulatory background.

You will travel locally about 75% to Lakeland, Kissimmee, Orlando, and Jacksonville facilities, maintain permits, and develop records. A Bachelor's degree or 1–3 years of EHS experience is expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Science, or a related field; or 1-3 years of experience in an EHS-related role (aggregate industry preferred).
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and written (Required).
  • Regulatory experience with OSHA 1910 and 1926 (Preferred).
  • Regulatory experience with Florida Department of Environmental Protection (Required).
  • Strong training methods knowledge (Required).
  • Strong MS Office skills (Required).
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks concurrently (Required).

  • Schedule and implement EHS training programs including new hire orientation and ongoing training.
  • Conduct internal audits for compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
  • Respond to and document EHS incidents and collect environmental samples.
  • Maintain permit records and report regulatory data (stormwater, emissions).
  • Travel locally ~75% to Lakeland, Kissimmee, Orlando, and Jacksonville facilities.

Job description

  • Schedule and implement the organization's environmental, health and safety training program to safeguard employees and surrounding communities
    • Includes new hire orientation, job-specific training, and on-going training to ensure compliance with all applicable EHS policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental, industrial hygiene and safety/health laws, standards, and regulations
  • Respond to, investigate, and document all EHS incidents
  • Collect, analyze, and document the results of environmental samples from all facilities to ensure compliance with regulations
  • Conduct and report recordkeeping requirements for facility's permits and other environmental regulatory reporting (such as, stormwater sampling, visible emissions observations)
  • Maintain and organize detailed records for permit requirements
  • Build strong working relationships to support the adherence to environmental, health and safety initiatives
  • Local commuting 75% of time to various North-Central Florida locations; responsibilities shared between the Lakeland, Kissimmee, Orlando, and Jacksonville facilities
  • Perform other duties assigned
What You'll Need:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Science, or a related field; or
    • 1 - 3 years of experience in an EHS-related role (aggregate industry preferred)
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and written (Required)
  • Regulatory experience with OSHA 1910 and 1926 (Preferred)
  • Regulatory experience with Florida Department of Environmental Protection (Required)
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations regarding air quality, wastewater, stormwater, and waste management (Preferred)
  • Working experience with industrial stormwater sampling methods and conducting visible emissions observations (EPA Method 9 and 22) (Preferred)
  • Strong knowledge and experience of training methods, procedures, and techniques (Required)
  • Strong computer skills including data management and presentation and experience in MS Office Suite (Required)
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks concurrently (Required)
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions
  • Ability to climb various heights on a regular basis
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, and crawl in various situations/positions
  • Ability to lift, carry, and/or pull 50 lbs. on a regular basis
  • Able to stand and/or sit for prolonged periods of time
  • Exposure to loud noise, machinery, chemicals, fumes, and odors
  • Required to wear safety equipment including hard hat, safety glasses, goggles, steel toed boots, ear plugs, respirator, gloves, and various other similar items as required
