Job description

Position Summary

This position is accountable for performing safety and health activities at construction job sites, industrial plants, and environmental sites to evaluate and control exposure to physical or environmental hazards. It is located in Orlando, FL, and requires 90% travel within Florida. The incumbent must work varying shifts, long hours (8–12 hours), weekend hours, and in diverse weather and office settings.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Conduct job audits by visiting job sites to identify existing or potential hazards.
  • Ensure all employees work safely and follow safety guidelines/standards per company and state/federal laws.
  • Investigate accidents and prepare accident reports.
  • Identify potential causes for accidents and recommend changes in policies and procedures to prevent accidents and illnesses.
  • Transport or accompany injured employees to medical treatment facilities; coordinate follow-up visits and work restrictions with medical providers.
  • Develop reports enumerating hazards found, including documentation and verification of proper abatement steps; assist field personnel in the abatement of hazards.
  • Measure noise levels and air quality using a variety of equipment or instruments.
  • Maintain and calibrate instruments of the trade.
  • Inspect respirators and train employees on how to use them.
  • Coordinate distribution of personal protective equipment such as vests, gloves, hard hats, harnesses, etc.
  • Coordinate respirator fit tests at clinic for employees.
  • Enforce use of safety equipment, including personal protective equipment.
  • Train operators of earth and/or material moving equipment such as backhoes, front-end loaders, forklifts, scissor lifts, telescoping boom lifts to qualify for operating authorization.
  • Train employees (on-the-job or in classroom settings) on safety and health requirements to ensure compliance with regulations, including new hire orientation.
  • Conduct new hire training on a weekly basis.
  • Oversee field activities and monitor for health and safety violations.
  • Monitor decontamination of personnel leaving hazardous work zones.
  • Issue and monitor hot work permits, confined space entries, and lockout/tag out permits.
  • Develop and monitor emergency action plans.
  • Assist management in preparing safety and health budget.
  • Maintain accountability for the safety of self and others encountered on the job; exercise stop work authority when unsafe conditions are observed.
Employee Safety and Compliance
  • Be responsible and accountable for own personal safety.
  • Be responsible and accountable for the safety of all co-workers and others encountered.
  • Have the authority and obligation to stop work on any task if an unsafe condition or situation is anticipated or observed.
  • Comply with all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies and procedures; be subject to disciplinary action (including dismissal) for noncompliance.
  • Report any and all violations of applicable laws, regulations, or company policies promptly; be subject to disciplinary action for failure to report.
  • Perform other related administrative and technical duties as assigned or requested by supervision.
Position Requirements

3+ years of safety-related experience in the construction industry. Associates or Bachelors Degree in Safety or Certificate from a technical school/college or related field, or equivalent work experience and education is required. Bilingual in English and Spanish is required. Safety professional certifications such as STS‑C, CHST, OHST are highly desired.

Additional Requirements
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Adobe, and mobile devices (tablets).
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Advanced training skills with the ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees at all levels.
  • Current driver’s license.
  • Ability to travel to different job sites in the region’s geographic area approximately 90% of the time.
  • OSHA 510 and/or 30 required.
  • First-aid/CPR Instructor certification is helpful.
Physical/Mental Requirements

The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation. They must wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, or other protective equipment as required. They must identify critical issues, formulate action plans with all levels of management, remain calm during emergencies, and respond appropriately to evacuate the work area in a timely manner if an emergency situation arises.
