Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist

Position Overview

Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota

Department: Human Resources

Primary Objective: The EHS Specialist develops, implements, and monitors safety programs to ensure a compliant and safe work environment. Responsibilities include conducting audits, inspections, hazard identification, safety training, incident investigation, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. The role promotes a proactive safety culture through regular engagement and communication with all employees.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Conduct daily safety audits and inspections; identify unsafe conditions and recommend corrective actions.
  2. Advise and collaborate with Production Supervisors and Managers on safety concerns and initiatives.
  3. Develop and update safety protocols and procedures.
  4. Investigate workplace incidents to determine root causes.
  5. Lead monthly Safety Committee meetings to discuss safety issues and preventive measures.
  6. Implement corrective actions and maintain detailed safety records.
  7. Review and update safety policies and regulations.
  8. Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and manage waste disposal and pollution programs.
  9. Coordinate emergency response plans and drills.
  10. Partner on sustainability initiatives and manage OSHA data entries.
  11. Collaborate on PPE hazard assessments and manage first aid and AED equipment.
  12. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree preferred; high school diploma with relevant experience may suffice.
  • OSHA-30 certification preferred; obtain within six months if not held.
  • First aid/CPR/AED certification required within six months if not already certified.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and MNOSHA regulations.
  • Strong communication, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and SAP.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and adapt to changing demands.
  • Physical ability to perform job duties in a plant environment, including lifting up to 50 lbs.
