Job summary

Valmont Industries is seeking a Safety Sciences/Environmental Health & Safety intern to support manufacturing teams on site. The paid internship focuses on hazard assessments, incident investigations, and corrective actions while embedding with site leadership and EHS professionals.

You will participate in safety initiatives, assist with training, and complete a capstone EHS improvement project, gaining hands-on experience in a real production environment.

Qualifications

• Senior pursuing a bachelor's degree in Safety Sciences, EHS, Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Science, or related field.
• GPA of 3.0+ required.
• Available to work onsite and support manufacturing operations.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
• Preferred certifications such as OSHA 10/30, First Aid/CPR/AED.

Responsibilities

• Support site and enterprise EHS programs through inspections, audits, hazard assessments, job safety analyses, incident investigations, corrective actions, and environmental compliance activities.
• Partner with EHS and operations teams to engage employees, identify risks, and promote continuous improvement.
• Utilize EHS management systems to track incidents, near misses, inspections, corrective actions, and compliance requirements.
• Participate in safety initiatives including machine safety, lockout/tagout, ergonomics, industrial hygiene, emergency preparedness, and contractor safety.
• Assist with employee training, toolbox talks, safety communications, engagement activities, and lessons-learned sharing.
• Complete a semester-long EHS improvement project and present recommendations to site leadership.

The EHS Intern will embed with a Valmont manufacturing team and support EHS programs and continuous improvement initiatives.
