Job summary

Triumvirate Environmental is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Associate for the 2nd shift (4:00pm–12:00am) to support client EHS operations in the greater Raleigh area. You will design, implement, and evaluate safety programs, conduct inspections, and assist with hazardous and regulated medical waste programs.

You will help maintain compliance, conduct trainings, and contribute to incident investigations and reporting while coordinating with client EHS staff on corrective actions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health, Safety, or related scientific field.
  • 1+ years' experience in an EHS capacity.
  • Excellent communication & customer service skills.

  • Problem solver with the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Possess a valid driver's license and personal vehicle.
  • Must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.
  • Must be able to report to the Raleigh office within 1 hour during Emergency Response rotating shifts.
  • Must be willing to consent to Motor Vehicle Record screening, criminal background check, pre-employment physical, and drug screen (inclusive of THC).
  • Upon employment, participate in a random drug screening program (inclusive of THC).

Responsibilities

  • Support the management of hazardous waste and regulated medical waste programs including waste handling, preparation of waste shipments, material movement, inspections, and record keeping.
  • Conduct workplace safety inspections according to defined procedures, evaluating PPE use.
  • Participate in safety inspections and examinations of machinery and equipment.
  • Identify and measure potential accident and health hazards and help implement control measures.
  • Assist to investigate accidents and injuries, identifying causes and remedial actions.
  • Write reports, including OSHA recordkeeping forms and ergonomic reports.
  • Communicate with client personnel regarding workplace environmental health and safety issues and corrective actions.
  • Conduct routine EHS safety trainings such as orientation, hazard communication, and PPE.
  • Assist in developing environmental and occupational health and safety systems, including policies and manuals.
  • Rotating on-call responsibilities as part of Emergency Response team.

Environmental Health & Safety Associate - 2nd Shift

Triumvirate Environmental, one of the largest environmental services firms in North America, is seeking an Environmental Health & Safety Associate to join our Advisory Services team. As an EHS Associate, you will assist clients in protecting their employees, contractors and customers and to safeguard the work and surrounding environment.

Working under the direction of the client EHS staff, the EHS Associate will help to design, implement, and evaluate safety programs, testing and inspecting the operating environment, conducting training, and act as a delivery resource to support a robust EHS operation. This hands‑on role will also support the hazardous waste and regulated medical waste programs including waste handling, preparation of waste shipments, material handling, inspections, and record keeping.

This position reports to a Regional EHS Manager or Director. This role is onsite and is based at a client site in the greater Raleigh area. This opening is to provide coverage for the 2nd Shift, 4:00pm to 12:00am.

Essential responsibilities:
  • Support the management of the hazardous waste and regulated medical waste programs including waste handling, preparation of waste shipments, material movement, inspections, and record keeping.
  • Conduct workplace safety inspections according to a defined procedure, evaluating the use of personal protective equipment, such as respirators, respirators, protective eyewear, or hardhats, according to applicable regulations. These inspections will engage workers and observing their work.
  • Participate in the safety inspections and examinations of machinery and equipment, such as lifting devices and machine guards.
  • Identify and measure potential accident and health hazards, such as toxic vapors, mold, mildew, and explosive gas‑air mixture, using calibrated scientific equipment and/or collecting samples according to a defined operating procedure. Then help implement appropriate control measures while updating standard operating procedures, such as adjustments to ventilation systems. As an example; measuring the effectiveness of engineered control systems such as fume hoods.
  • Assist to investigate accidents and injuries, identifying causes and recommending remedial action.
  • Write reports, including accident or ergonomic reports, and enter information on required Occupational Safety and Health Administration recordkeeping forms.
  • Communicate with client personnel regarding workplace environmental health and safety issues, communicating and implementing corrective actions.
  • Conduct routine EHS safety trainings such as new employee orientation, hazard communication, and personal protective equipment.
  • Assist in the development of specific areas of environmental and occupational health and safety systems, including drafting or updating policies, procedures, and manuals.
  • Rotating on‑call responsibilities as part of our Emergency Response team.
Basic Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or above in Occupational Health, Safety, or a related scientific field, such as Biology, Chemistry, or Engineering.
  • 1+ years' experience in an EHS capacity.
  • Excellent communication & customer service skills.
  • Detail orientation.
  • Problem solver with the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Preferred Requirements:
  • Completed two or more industry-recognized trainings (OSHA 10 or 30, ABSA, HAZWOPER, DOT/IATA HAZMAT Transportation).
  • Active member in at least one national professional safety organization including local chapters.
  • Working towards meeting the requirements of and obtaining one professional designation/certification (CSP, CHMM, CIH, etc.) and may be considering some postgraduate coursework and/or in the process of obtaining a master's degree in health physics, industrial hygiene, occupational safety, ergonomics, or a related subject.
