Job summary

Wake County Environmental Health & Safety Division in Raleigh, NC is seeking an Environmental Consultant to ensure restaurants and lodging facilities meet sanitation and safety standards. The role blends customer service, science, and public health to protect residents and visitors.

You will perform inspections, investigate outbreaks, and educate stakeholders during visits. Candidates should have a degree in health sciences or public health, plus several years of environmental health experience

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or postgraduate degree from an EHAC-accredited program or equivalent in health sciences
• Minimum three years of experience in environmental health or related field
• FDA standardization required within 18 months of hire
• NC Registered Environmental Health Specialist
• NCDHHS authorizations for Food Lodging Institutions and at least one other authorization
• Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record

Responsibilities

• Performs inspections of food, lodging, and institutional facilities required by state rules and regulations
• Conducts foodborne and communicable disease outbreak investigations
• May inspect swimming pools and tattoo facilities
• Perform emergency response and complaint investigations
• Educate the general public concerning environmental and public health issues
