Job summary

Kenosha County Public Health is seeking an Environmental Sanitarian to join our Environmental Health team. This self-directed role enforces state statutes, codes, and local ordinances to protect community health and safety. The position conducts inspections, investigations, and reports to prevent health hazards and foodborne outbreaks.

Hiring range 2026: $63,791 – $75,941 annually. On-site, full-time position in Kenosha, WI with opportunities to contribute to community health initiatives.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of state statutes, administrative codes, and local ordinances related to environmental and public health.
• Understanding ofFood and waterborne disease outbreak investigations and reporting.
• Familiarity with sampling protocols and laboratory analysis.
• Ability to review HACCP plans and licensing applications.
• Experience with risk assessment and community health initiatives is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform standard compliance inspections of restaurants, retail food establishments, schools, and other facilities to ensure health code compliance.
• Investigate complaints and determine corrective or enforcement actions as needed.
• Collect and analyze samples (food, water, bacteria) for laboratory testing.
• Prepare detailed inspection and investigation reports and maintain accurate documentation.
