Job summary

Sauk County seeks an Environmental Health Sanitarian to protect community health by inspecting facilities, investigating complaints, and coordinating with state agencies. The role emphasizes policy development, outreach, and data-driven decision making within the Public Health Department.

Requirements include a bachelor’s degree in a related field, and REHS eligibility or certification within six months, plus a valid Wisconsin driver's license. Standard hours Mon–Fri with potential overtime.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health, Biology, Microbiology, or related field.
• Registered Environmental Health Sanitarian or ability to become certified within six months of hire.
• Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Complete inspections relating to DNR, DATCP, and DSPS contracts such as hotels, restaurants, school lunch programs.
• Document and track inspections using HealthSpace system.
• Investigate environmental health complaints and assess health hazard risk.
• Develop and implement EH policies and procedures.
• Respond to foodborne illness complaints and coordinate investigations.
• Prepare reports to the Department of Health Services and other agencies.
