Job summary

Salt Lake County seeks a Program Manager – Environmental Hazard Resource to lead encampment abatement efforts, coordinate with public safety, social services and public works, and manage program budgets and staff.

The role requires licensure as Environmental Health Scientist in Utah or eligibility, plus a degree and several years in environmental health; strong leadership, communication, and record-keeping are essential.

Qualifications

• Must be licensed as an Environmental Health Scientist in Utah or eligible for license reciprocity.
• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health or related field; plus three years in public or environmental health, or equivalent.
• Preference will be given to candidates with supervisory experience.
• A valid Utah driver’s license is required at hire; must obtain within six months to operate county vehicle.
• Must pass a mandatory drug test and background check.

Responsibilities

• Supervises staff, including hiring, orientation, training, assigning and reviewing performance.
• Plans, directs, and delegates assignment of Environmental Health staff, coordinating resources with other agencies.
• Ensures safe encampment abatement activities with safety policies and procedures.
• Investigates encampment abatement cases with partnering agencies to coordinate resources.
• Issues notices and enforces compliance under state/federal laws.
• Maintains complete records for federal, state, and municipal agencies related to encampment abatement.
• Develops public education programs and trains citizens.
