Job description

We are seeking a dedicated EHS Manager to oversee and enforce workplace safety in our food and manufacturing facilities here at La Terra Fina. This role ensures compliance with OSHA, FDA, and other industry regulations, while fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement. You will partner with our HR Plant Manager as well as our Operations team to ensure safe, clean, and secure working conditions.

Requirements
  • Focuses on technical safety aspects, such as hazard identification, risk assessment, engineering controls, and safety system design.
  • Oversees the implementation of safety policies, programs, and training, ensuring compliance with regulations and fostering a safety culture.

Conduct a Comprehensive Risk Assessment

  • Use their expertise to identify potential hazards, analyze risks, and recommend engineering solutions (e.g., machine guarding, ventilation systems, or ergonomic designs).
  • Ensure risk assessments are documented, communicated to stakeholders, and integrated into the safety programs

Develop and Implement Engineering Controls

  • Design and implement engineering controls to eliminate or reduce hazards at the source (e.g., automation, safety interlocks, or noise reduction systems).
  • Coordinate with the engineering department to implement controls effectively and align with organizational policies.

Enhance Safety Training and Awareness

  • Provide technical input for training programs, such as equipment-specific safety protocols or emergency response procedures.
  • Develop and deliver training sessions, ensuring employees understand safety procedures and their roles in maintaining a safe workplace.

Strengthen Compliance and Documentation

  • Ensure that safety systems and equipment meet regulatory standards (e.g., CA-OSHA, ANSI, or ISO).
  • Maintain records, conduct audits, and ensure the organization complies with local, state, and federal safety regulations

Foster a Proactive Safety Culture

  • Identify trends in incident data and recommend proactive measures to prevent future accidents.
  • Promote a safety culture by encouraging employee participation, recognizing safe behaviors, and promptly addressing safety concerns.

Improve Incident Investigation and Response

  • Analyze incidents to determine root causes and recommend engineering solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Lead incident investigations, implement corrective actions, and communicate lessons learned to the workforce.

Leverage Technology and Data

  • Implement advanced technologies, such as predictive analytics or wearable devices, to monitor real-time safety conditions.
  • Use data to track safety performance, identify areas for improvement, and report progress to leadership.

Collaborate on Emergency Preparedness

  • Design and test emergency systems (e.g., fire suppression, evacuation routes, or alarm systems).
  • Develop emergency response plans, conduct drills, and ensure employees are prepared for emergencies.

Continuous Improvement

  • Stay updated on emerging safety technologies and best practices to improve safety systems continuously.
  • Regularly review and update safety programs based on feedback, incident data, and regulatory changes.
