Qualifications

Job Summary

Under minimal supervision, responsible to supervise, plan, monitor, and coordinate environmental health and safety throughout the organization. Plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and well-being of employees, visitors, and the surrounding environment within the organization. The EH&S Manager will oversee the development, implementation, and maintenance of comprehensive EHS programs and policies to mitigate risks and promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.

Essential Functions :

? Manages the Environmental Health and Safety Program at Denver Health, including but not limited to the following tasks:

- Plans, monitors, coordinates and enforces EH&S policies and procedures in accordance with all local, state, and federal requirements.

-Tracks and maintains department budgets.

- Manage technicians, including training, process, and compliance.

- Stays informed about emerging EH&S trends, technology, and best practices throughout the industry.

- Provides training and support to staff and contractors, as needed.

? Develops and implements EH&S policies and procedures to maintain an effective EH&S program and ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulations as well as regulatory requirements.

? Serves as primary point of contact related to both internal and external compliance of Denver Health?s Environmental Health and Safety Program, including but not limited to the following tasks:

- Advises and interprets technical and legal ordinances regarding codes and regulatory practices to Denver Health.

- Advises and interprets internal Denver Health policies as needed to staff.

- Act as a resource for compliance questions and provide operational application guidance and interpretation.

? Administrative tasks including but not limited to the following:

- Maintaining records, statistics, and preparing reports as requested.

- Maintain existing and develop new policies as needed related to the waste management program

- Assist in devising and administering the waste management portion of the budget.

? Leads the effort to create a sustainability program and vision for the organization.

- Develop the business case and environmental responsibility for addressing sustainability issues.

- Assess the organizations current sustainability performance and identify and prioritize the organizations key sustainability issues.

- Serve as the internal leader and "go to" expert for sustainability, monitoring emerging trends, programs, and issues, and communicating and education others on sustainability topics.

- Measure and monitor progress for sustainability strategies, objectives and performance targets.

- Identify and evaluate projects and programs to enhance sustainability efforts.

- Offer expertise and provide leadership-level support for initiatives to reduce organization-wide resource consumption and waste generation.

- Liaising with contractors and other external agencies to identify opportunities for promoting sustainability in a mutually beneficial way.

- Monitor consumption of resources, energy, water and waste production and set goals/targets for reducing consumption.

- Collaborate with internal groups to develop communications and marketing strategies to publicize the company?s sustainability effort and promote broad awareness, both internally and externally.

? Manages the Waste Management Program at Denver Health, including but not limited to the following tasks:

- Plans, monitors, coordinates and enforces waste disposal in accordance with all local, state, and federal requirements.

- Work to minimize the environmental and financial cost of waste at Denver Health.Includes regular evaluation of procedures and recommending solutions or alternatives for the purpose of reduction of waste, increasing compliance and/or developing more efficient and cost effective waste disposal solutions.

- Supervises trash technicians, including training, process, and compliance, in conjunction with Environmental Services

- Collect and store waste in accordance with requirement.

- Evaluate new chemicals being introduced into the facility for potential hazards and/or reaction with other chemicals already in use.

? Serves as primary point of contact related to both internal and external compliance of Denver Health?s EH&S Program, including but not limited to the following tasks:

- Advises and interprets technical and legal ordinances regarding solid waste management codes and regulatory practices to Denver Health.

- Advises and interprets internal Denver Health policies as needed to staff.

- Act as a resource for compliance questions and provide operational application guidance and interpretation.

? Participate in facility emergency response, including but not limited to the following:

- Respond to and investigate hazardous conditions or spills, which may include collecting samples for analysis and coordinating engineering, planning and construction, and/or outside services to assist with clean up and/or abatement.

- Work as liaison between Hazmat Decontamination Team and Emergency Preparedness/Safety Department in coordinating drills, training, and response to real-world hazmat events.


Education :

  • Bachelor's Degree required OR
  • Post High School Diploma or Certificate Program, OSHA certs, Haz Waste certs, Certified Safety professional (CSP) and/or others that deal with environmental safety or hazardous waste required .


Work Experience :

  • Typically five years of environmental health and safety experience required


Licenses :

  • Colorado Driver's License Class R - DMV - Department of Motor Vehicles required


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques used in solid waste management including storage, collection, transfer, transport and disposal activities, and recycling, resource recovery and environmental sustainability.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and local laws and ordinances related to environmental health and safety management.
  • Knowledge of interviewing and investigation techniques. Able to work independently.
  • Ability to analyze practices and recommend improvements for the purpose of increasing efficiencies, as well as decreasing the carbon footprint of Denver Health and Hospital Authority.
  • Ability to implement new programs and practices effectively across the entire organization.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the department and representatives of departments, agencies, public and contractors.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects at once and prioritize appropriately.
