Job summary

Alpha Generation is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist to oversee EHS compliance at our Brooklyn sites, Gowanus and Narrows. You will implement programs, manage projects, and ensure adherence to federal, state and local environmental laws and regulations.

The role requires a four-year engineering/EHS degree or equivalent, a minimum of three years’ experience, knowledge of CAA/CWA/RCRA/CERCLA/OPA90, and the ability to pass a respirator fit test, hold a valid license, and

Qualifications

• A four-year engineering or EHS-related degree and/or equivalent project management experience.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant EHS experience.
• Knowledge of environmental laws/regulations (CAA, CWA, RCRA, CERCLA, OPA90).
• Must pass a respirator physical/fit test and hold a valid driver's license.
• Must obtain NYC FDNY Certificates of Fitness and TWIC.

Responsibilities

• Complete all functions of the EHS department.
• Ensure compliance with EPA/USCG/NYDEC/OSHA/NYC DEPDEC/FDNY regulations.
• Undertake activities to verify and improve environmental and safety compliance.
• Prepare regulatory filings, reports and submittals.
• Manage capital and O&M projects.
• Interface with federal, state and local regulatory entities.
• Work with internal teams and external parties on ongoing matters and projects.
• Perform emergency response activities including spill response.
• Oversee the site safety program.

Environmental Health and Safety EHS Specialist
Work Location: Brooklyn, NY – Gowanus and Narrows Stations
Compensation: 80K – 133K bonus eligibility
Schedule: Full Time; Monday – Friday 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Out of area and overnight travel as required to attend necessary training.

Position Summary

This position is responsible for the EHS oversight to ensure the department complies with relevant laws and regulations regarding safety, health and environmental protection. The role includes effective implementation of projects, schedules, contracts and compliance programs to ensure the NYC sites Gowanus and Narrows are in compliance with all applicable federal, state and local environmental laws and regulations as well as corporate policies, goals, targets and programs.

Key Responsibilities

• Complete all functions of the EHS department
• Ensure compliance with applicable regulations including USEPA USCG NYSDEC OSHA NYC DEPDEC and FDNY
• Undertake activities to verify and improve environmental and safety compliance
• Prepare regulatory filings reports and submittals
• Manage capital and O&M projects
• Interface directly with all federal state and local regulatory entities
• Work with members of other internal teams and external parties on ongoing matters and projects as needed
• Perform emergency response activities as required including but not limited to oilchemical spill response
• Oversee the site safety program

• Able to work overtime and extended hours including emergency call ins during off hours

Minimum Qualifications

• A four year engineeringEHS related degree andor demonstrated experience in project management environmental due diligence regulatory compliance and safety program management
• A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
• Demonstrated knowledge of environmental laws and regulations such as CAA CWA RCRA CERCLA and OPA90
• Must pass a respirator physicalfit test and hold a valid drivers license
• Must obtain all necessary New York City Fire Department FDNY Certificates of Fitness and TWIC

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

Must be comfortable working in office laboratory outdoor and boiler room settings in all seasons and conditions including sitting standing and walking for long periods climbing working at heights and carrying loads of up to 50 lbs
