Description
The Environmental Health and Safety – (EHS Specialist) is responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental, health, and safety regulations, fostering a strong safety culture, and supporting risk mitigation efforts across the organization. This role requires hands-on coordination with management, employees, and regulatory agencies to implement effective policies, conduct audits, and provide training in workplace safety and environmental protection.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Regulatory Compliance & Safety Standards
- Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local EHS regulations, including OSHA and environmental protection standards.
- Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies, supporting compliance reporting and inspections.
Policy & Program Development
- Develop and implement EHS policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with legal requirements and company goals.
- Maintain detailed records of safety incidents, compliance activities, and regulatory reporting documentation.
Audits, Inspections & Hazard Mitigation
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to proactively identify workplace hazards.
- Work closely with management to assess and mitigate risks that could affect employee safety and environmental standards.
Training & Employee Engagement
- Provide training programs on workplace safety, environmental protection, and safe operational practices.
- Foster a strong safety culture, ensuring employees understand and follow safety protocols.
Emergency Preparedness & Response
- Assist in the development and implementation of emergency response plans, ensuring readiness for incidents.
Support crisis management protocols related to workplace hazards, environmental risks, and accident investigations.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health, Occupational Safety, or a related field.
- 2–3 years of experience in workplace safety, compliance, or environmental health.
- Experience in industrial maintenance and working with field associates preferred.
Knowledge, skills, and/or Abilities required include:
- Strong knowledge of EHS compliance, regulatory frameworks, and risk management.
- Ability to conduct audits, inspections, and investigations to ensure workplace safety and adherence to environmental standards.
- Ability to he hands-on and onsite – Monday – Friday in the office, and ability to travel up to 15% within state on regular basis
- Effective communication skills to train employees, report compliance findings, and liaise with regulatory agencies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with VelocityEHS, ISNetworld, and Avetta preferred.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to analyze hazards and develop mitigation strategies
Working Environment and Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift and move packages up to 50 lbs. regularly.
- Prolonged standing, walking, bending, and lifting required throughout the workday.
- Comfortable operating forklifts and other warehouse equipment in a dynamic environment.
- Work may involve exposure to variable warehouse temperatures and physical demands associated with inventory movement.
