Job description

Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator

SpecPro Professional Services, LLC. (SPS) is seeking an Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator to provide support to Ft. Irwin's Solid Waste Facility.

The Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator will implement policies to ensure a safe and healthy work environment at SpecPro’s Ft. Irwin Solid Waste facilities at the landfill and recycle center.

Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Inspects the facility weekly to identify safety, health, and environmental risks. Mitigates risks as appropriate.
  • Develops and implements inspection policies and procedures, and a schedule of routine inspections.
  • Develops and implements HS procedures for all areas of the site, including SOPs and JHAs.
  • Updates the site safety plan as needed.
  • Prepares and schedules training to cover annual OSHA Training, emergency procedures, SWPPP and SPCC, Universal and Hazardous waste, and other relevant topics.
  • Monitors compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Drafts inspection reports to document inspection findings.
  • Ensures that safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed.
  • Maintains records of discharge of or employee exposure to hazardous waste and/or pollutants, as required.
  • Maintains/manages PPE stock for all employees.
  • Manages/inspects/Replace First Aid Kits, AEDs, eye wash stations, signage, and fire extinguishers monthly.
  • Coordinates groundwater and soil gas monitoring program for the active landfill.
  • Performs incident investigations and completes incident reports to submit to Corporate PM in a timely manner.
  • Performs other related duties including but not limited to clerical and administrative tasks as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Extensive knowledge of environmental and OSHA regulations and policies.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficient in technology and equipment used in environmental inspections.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 or similar software.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) is a plus.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, Geology or related field required.
  • Two years of related experience preferred.
  • OSHA and HAZWOPER experienced, up to date certifications preferred.
  • Army Regulation 385-10, Chapter 16 knowledge preferred.
  • DoD Defense Environmental Restoration Program knowledge preferred.
  • Experienced with environmental compliance and working with CalEPA.
  • PE or PG a plus, not required.
Physical Requirements:
  • Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to operate a company truck while onsite.
