A leading biopharma company in Cambridge is seeking an EH&S Advisor to oversee Environmental, Health, and Safety Programs across multiple sites. The role involves providing technical support, ensuring compliance with regulations, and leading initiatives to promote safety within R&D. Candidates should possess a relevant degree and experience in managing safety programs in laboratory environments. Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills are essential for success in this role.
Site Location : Cambridge Park Drive, MA – full time on-site presence is required with quarterly travel expected.
Job Purpose and Key Responsibilities :
Act as the EH&S advisor for R&D non-hub sites specifically for the Cambridge Massachusetts’s and Branford, Connecticut locations.
Working effectively with the EHS professionals on the R&D team to deliver efficient and consistent programs to all groups within R&D.
Provide day to day support as part of a team to deliver first line advice, training, emergency response, risk assessment, incident investigation, input to local projects and processes to the site.
Provide specialist technical services (Chemical Safety, Machine Safety, Risk Assessment, etc…) to the R&D groups within the region.
Provide Independent Business Monitoring Program leadership and support to R&D across the region and in conjunction with the broader R&D EHS team.
Accountability :
Accountable for alerting management to legislative development in the areas Health, Safety and Industrial Hygiene which could impact operations.
Represent the interests of GSK in key external policy forums.
Champion the interests of stakeholders within the business in GSK EHS policy and strategy development.
Complexity :
Shaping change in the external environment is a key job factor. Ability to manage complexity and uncertainty in rapidly changing situations is required. Autonomous decision making is often essential.
The breadth and number of activities directed by this position necessitates strong prioritization skills and the ability to manage tasks concurrently. Many of these tasks are initiated by the job holder; others come from internal customers and other stakeholders external to GSK. Deadlines are negotiable, but the job holder is required to make independent decisions as necessary.
Influencing and negotiation required to ensure appropriate resourcing and commitment from other divisional managers.
Position interfaces on a regular basis with all GSK business sectors.
Basic Qualifications :
Bachelor’s degree in environmental, Health and Safety Management, Engineering, Chemistry.
3+ years of experience overseeing Environmental, Health and Safety Programs in laboratories.
Experience applying OSHA Regulations and managing Hazardous Materials and Toxic & Hazardous Substances.
Preferred Qualifications :
Good interpersonal, presentational and persuasive skills so as to successfully interact with managers at all levels and the ability to manage complex internal relations on a multi-site and international basis.
Good knowledge of the business and a good net worker.
