West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection seeks a Geologist 1 in Logan, WV to provide professional geologic services for mining permitting. The successful candidate will perform field investigations, prepare technical documents, and may present findings in hearings. A geology degree is required; no prior experience is necessary.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in Geology.
• No prior professional experience required.

Responsibilities

• Review and evaluate geologic and hydrologic portions of mining permit applications to ensure technical accuracy and completeness.
• Interpret data, draw conclusions, and recommend approval or denial of permit applications; prepare cumulative hydrologic impact statements.
• Conduct field investigations as required; collect data and prepare technical reports.
• Justify conclusions in public hearings or courts if needed.
• Perform other duties as required or assigned.
