Environmental Field Technician (Environmental Field Tech)

Job Overview

Maryland Environmental Service is hiring up to three (3) Environmental Field Technicians to join the Technical and Environmental Services Group at the State Highway Administration Office of Materials Technology. The role involves data collection, monitoring, and providing technical support for SHA projects. Activities are primarily field-based, including driving, sampling, and monitoring within SHA Right-Of-Ways or roadways. The position requires coordination with peers and technical staff.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct fieldwork such as data collection, sampling, and monitoring.
  • Support various SHA projects with technical expertise.
  • Coordinate with team members and technical personnel.
Additional Details

This role may require working non-standard hours, overtime, nights, weekends, holidays, and during adverse weather conditions. Overnight travel may be necessary. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license with less than five points, be able to lift 50 lbs, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Compensation & Benefits

Estimated pay range: $43,909.83 - $60,376.59.

Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED; one year of experience in sampling, data collection, geotechnical, GPR, environmental monitoring, or construction-related fields.
  • Associates degree is a plus but not required.
  • Ability to pass a DOT pre-employment physical exam.

Preferred candidates will have experience operating field vehicles and equipment, performing field analysis and sampling, record-keeping, minor equipment maintenance, and report preparation. Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently are also preferred.
