Job description

Clean Harbors in Caseyville, IL is seeking an Environmental Field Chemist CDL Driver (CleanPack Chemist) to handle, segregate, pack, and inspect chemical waste in accordance with Federal/State/Local regulations and our company policies and procedures. This position will work both indoors and outdoors at plants, labs, customer sites and are responsible for assisting with lab packs within customer facilities, household hazardous waste (HHW) collections and lab moves. This is a customer facing position, working at customer sites daily.

1. Clean Harbors will pay for you to obtain your CDL
2. The ability to obtain a Class B CDL with hazmat endorsement required
3. The Environmental Field Chemist are (NOT) laboratory-based Chemist
4. Must be clean shaven with the ability to wear a full-face respirator as required

Responsibilities include:

1. Ensure health and safety by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and procedures, always acting in a safe manner.
2. Prepare packing lists, labels, manifest, and land disposal restriction notifications.
3. Inspect storage areas and drums for leaks, spills, and compliance with labeling regulations.
4. Collect, segregate, and properly package waste chemicals for disposal.
5. Perform jobs at customer locations, including Fortune 500 companies.
6. Ensure all projects are prepared and approved before shipment, complying with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and company policies.
7. Conduct projects according to site-specific regulations and safety plans.
8. Understand customer-specific disposal restrictions and packaging requirements.
9. Sample and profile waste streams needing analytical testing.
10. Verify drum count and conditions for shippability.
11. Follow all local, state, and federal regulations.
12. Operate vehicles safely per U.S. DOT and other requirements.
13. Observe all company environmental health and safety guidelines.
14. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications include:

• Valid Driver's license
• Strong customer service skills
• Ability to obtain a CDL Class B with hazmat and tanker endorsement within 6 months
• Physical ability to perform job functions
• Successful background check, drug test, and physical
• Compliance with OSHA facial hair standards for respirator use

Preferred Qualifications:

• College degree in Chemistry or Natural Science
• Experience in Environmental Services (remediation, abatement, spill response)
