ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER SPECIALIST 1 - 4 Safe Drinking Water Section

  • Salary: EES 1 $60-$65K; EES 2 $65-$75K; EES 3 $80K-$85K; EES 4 (Associate) $85K-$90K
  • Grades: 24 - 26, 28

Job Summary:

The Environmental Engineer Specialist in the Safe Drinking Water Section will review environmental permit applications, reports, facility designs, plans, and cost estimates. Responsibilities include developing permits and recommendations, participating in site visits, inspections, and investigations, reviewing technical documents, performing environmental calculations, providing technical assistance, and helping prepare guidance documents.

This position offers full-time remote work within Arizona, including virtual arrangements, with occasional office meetings and site evaluations.

Job Duties:
  • Provide technical assistance regarding water treatment technologies and operations.
  • Review data reports, engineering designs, and technical submittals.
  • Conduct site visits and resolve compliance issues.
  • Assist owners and operators in meeting regulations.
  • Guide staff and facilities on technical issues.
  • Assist in preparing engineering guidance documents.
  • Mentor staff and review lower-level engineers’ work.
  • Use Lean principles for continuous improvement.
  • Prepare technical memos and permits.
  • Interpret relevant environmental laws and regulations.
  • Develop guidance documents, policies, and outreach materials.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of civil or environmental engineering principles.
  • Understanding of State and Federal environmental regulations.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize tasks.
  • Ability to interpret environmental rules and statutes.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s in environmental, civil, or chemical engineering; master’s or doctorate preferred.
  • Relevant experience varies by level, with specific certifications required for higher levels.
Pre-Employment Requirements:

Possession of a valid driver’s license if driving is required. All new hires must complete E-Verify.
