Job summary

State of Florida’s Department of Environmental Protection in Tallahassee invites an Environmental Consultant to join the Resilient Florida Program. The role requires licensure as a Florida Professional Engineer and at least four years of engineering experience, focusing on reviewing adaptation strategies, grant work plans, and site-specific studies in coordination with engineers from government and private practice.

Travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Strong technical review and analytical skills.
• Ability to evaluate projects against defined criteria and make clear meets/exceeds determinations.
• Deep understanding of building codes and engineering standards.
• Ability to identify gaps, risks, and inconsistencies in engineering proposals.
• Clear and effective written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Review planning documents, including nature-based solutions and water systems.
• Manage grant work plans and scope changes for completeness and eligibility.
• Review contractor deliverables for conformity with plans.
• Provide technical support to field staff and improve processes.
• Assist with data requests, technical reporting, and guidance for the program.
• Review grant applications for technical completeness and eligibility.
