Job summary

State of Florida's Department of Environmental Protection, located in Tallahassee, seeks a Professional Engineer I to support the Mining and Mitigation Program. This role focuses on technical review and regulatory evaluation of mining, reclamation and ERP projects across the state.

The incumbent will assess hydrologic, hydraulic, and geotechnical analyses, ensure compliance with Florida statutes, and provide guidance to staff, permit applicants, and consultants.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of environmental, civil, hydraulic, agricultural or water resource engineering principles.
  • Ability to review engineering reports, permit applications and environmental studies for regulatory adequacy.
  • Ability to interpret Florida Statutes and permitting criteria for mining, mitigation, ERP activities.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed technical reviews of hydrologic, hydraulic, hydrogeologic and stormwater analyses for mining operations and ERP projects.
  • Evaluate floodplain impacts, wetlands and watershed interactions to ensure compliance with state regulations.
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to staff, permit applicants and stakeholders.
