Job summary

Matrix New World Engineering, a part of True Environmental, seeks an Environmental Engineer, Scientist, or Geologist I for its NYC office. You will lead project and field work, including Phase I and II ESAs and remedial action workplans in the NYC metropolitan area.

The ideal candidate has 2+ years of experience, strong writing and interpersonal skills, and is prepared to mentor entry level staff. Travel across NYC boroughs, Westchester, and Long Island may be required.

Qualifications

  • BS in Environmental Engineering, or related engineering degree, or Environmental Science, Geology or related science degree
  • 3+ years of environmental consulting experience
  • Experience performing Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and Phase II Environmental Site Investigations, including soil, sediment, soil vapor, air, and groundwater sampling
  • Proficiency in logging borings and describing soil lithology using the Burmister soil classification system
  • Working knowledge of NYSDEC Rules, Regulations and Guidance documents including DER-10, Part 360, and Part 375 Regulations
  • OSHA 40-Hour Training and 8-hour refreshers
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, with a clean driving record, and be willing to travel and conduct field work in all boroughs of NYC, Westchester, and Long Island
  • Experience working effectively with team members as well as independently
  • Strong quantitative/math and analytical skills
  • Core competency in Microsoft Office Products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong attention to detail
  • Must be able to wear a respirator
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test and will be subject to DOT regulated random drug testing

Responsibilities

  • Complete site investigations to determine the nature and extent of contaminated soil, soil vapor, sediment, groundwater, and other media in diverse sites
  • Complete Phase I Environmental Site Assessments
  • Participate in all aspects of site investigation and remediation, from workplans to final remedial documents
  • Assist with the preparation of technical reports, specifications, and plans; data management and evaluation; and environmental assessment and remediation
  • Assist with training entry level staff
  • Field work oversight of subcontractors during drilling, monitoring wells, soil borings, and remedial construction
  • Perform Phase 1 ESAs in accordance with ASTM E1527, supervise junior staff, and perform peer reviews
  • Prepare summary reports including laboratory data reviews, tables, figures, and text
  • Provide environmental construction field management, such as community air monitoring and soil management
