Job summary

Apex Companies, based in Charlotte, NC, is seeking an Engineer 1 - Staff Engineer to join our environmental engineering team. You will perform field-based activities, assist with remediation systems, and support project engineering under senior guidance.

You should have a BS in Environmental Engineering and be prepared for significant field work (50-75%). Strong communication, safety focus, and a valid driver’s license are essential. Sponsorship is not available.

Qualifications

• Bachelor-level environmental engineering degree required.
• EI Certification desired.
• 40-hour HAZWOPER certification is required.
• Familiarity with environmental remediation including soil, soil gas, and groundwater treatment systems.
• 1+ years of related experience.
• Proficiency with MS Office; AutoCAD is a plus.
• Valid driver's license with reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field inspections, sample collection, testing, and data analysis.
• Assist with installing, operating, and maintaining soil and groundwater remediation systems.
• Manage and oversee subcontractors in the field.
• Assist with project engineering design with Senior Engineer oversight.
• Assist with writing technical reports, proposals, and permitting documents.
• Gather, analyze, and interpret data; input data into template reports.
• Ensure safe work practices on all project work.
• Actively develop your own career growth.
• % fieldwork/travel to conduct field sampling activities and support system startups and trouble-shooting project remediation sites (50-75%).
