Job Summary:
The Environmental Specialist/Engineer is responsible for water/wastewater programs (drinking water, water treatment, sewage conveyance, industrial wastewater, and applicable permits), hazardous/universal waste programs, and supervision of hourly staff.
Responsibilities
- Ensure water/wastewater systems comply with federal, state, and local regulations and standards.
- Operate and monitor water/wastewater treatment facilities.
- Manage hazardous/universal waste program.
- Supervise hourly workforce.
- Oversee contractor activities supporting disposal criteria.
- Schedule activities to meet mandated deadlines.
Qualifications
- One to five years of experience in the environmental field with knowledge of water/wastewater, laboratory analysis techniques, backflow prevention, RCRA, DOT, and hazardous waste, or
- Class One West Virginia Domestic Water Certification.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science related discipline from an ABET-accredited program is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within a team environment, required.
- Willingness to learn, required.
- Ability to adapt to a new environment, required.
- Effective communication skills (both written and verbal), with the ability to adapt communication styles to different audiences, preferred.
- Effective time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines, preferred.
Dimensions
- The Environmental Specialist/Engineer will be part of the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Department supporting the Ravenswood, West Virginia facility of Constellium Rolled Products Ravenswood, LLC. The position reports to the Environmental Manager and oversees daily operations of water, wastewater, and hazardous materials programs, supervising five hourly staff. The role involves planning to meet regulatory reporting deadlines and responding to unplanned requests.
- The position will contribute to budgeting for water, wastewater, and other operations, with increasing responsibilities over time, initially focusing on regulatory interactions.
- The Environmental Specialist/Engineer will monitor and report information to Ravenswood Management and regulatory agencies routinely, in written and verbal formats, based on permit requirements and certifications.
- The challenge lies in learning plant processes, developing relationships, gaining trust from staff, and shaping the future of the role within the Environmental Group.
