  • Develop and propose permit strategies to support new projects and operational modifications at manufacturing and non-manufacturing sites.
  • Prepare and complete permit applications on behalf of manufacturing sites and other facilities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Support the implementation of environmental standards and policies across supported sites.
  • Monitor regulatory changes, particularly in California and other highly regulated West Coast locations, and ensure that operations remain in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Support environmental functions related to Environmental and Energy Management Systems (EEMS) requirements and confirm understanding by local environmental support teams.
  • Collaborate closely with production engineering groups to align environmental compliance with project timelines and operational objectives.
  • Assess stormwater, wastewater, and chemical impacts of site modifications and determine when permits are required.
  • Contribute to maintaining strong environmental compliance practices and documentation across supported sites.

Job Description

The Environmental Engineer supports production engineering groups by evaluating the environmental impacts of changes, modifications, and new launches at manufacturing and non-manufacturing sites on the highly regulated West Coast, including California. This role focuses on conducting environmental impact assessments for projects that involve capital investment, developing permit strategies, and ensuring compliance with evolving regulatory requirements. The position offers long-term, stable contract work with significant opportunities for professional growth in a dynamic, expanding engineering environment.

  • Effective communication skills to provide clear feedback and guidance to project requestors and local environmental support teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working with California-specific environmental regulations.
  • Exposure to or experience in the automotive industry.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing and non-manufacturing site operations on the West Coast.

Work Environment

The role supports manufacturing and non-manufacturing sites on the highly regulated West Coast, including California, working closely with production engineering groups that deploy changes, modifications, and new launches at each site. The environment emphasizes strong environmental compliance, frequent evaluation of stormwater, wastewater, air quality, and chemical impacts, and proactive monitoring of regulatory changes. The position is structured as a long-term, open-ended contract with stable work planned over a 5–10 year horizon. Schedules offer flexibility and support work-life balance, and travel may be required for some positions with opportunities to arrange rotation of weeks. Consultants benefit from a supportive culture where relationships with the client’s vendor management program enable advocacy and continuity, even in challenging economic conditions. The role includes 10 paid time off days and 9 paid holidays per calendar year, with overtime (hours worked over 40 per week) compensated at time and a half, and travel arrangements handled for contractors. The environment is professional, collaborative, and focused on continuous learning and development in environmental engineering and compliance.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $50.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
